Read More Emotional knowledge, a set of abilities that describes the adaptive utilization of emotional information, necessitates measurement with valid instruments for research purposes. The present study was conducted with two primary objectives: first, to validate the Emotion Matching Task for assessing emotional knowledge in Iranian preschool children, and second, to investigate gender differences in their level of emotional knowledge. This research employed a correlational and test validation design. Participants comprised 304 preschool children from Mashhad city in 2024, selected through convenience sampling. The Emotion Matching Task (Izard et al., 2003), the Social Competence Scale (Corrigan, 2003), and the Theory of Mind Scale (Wellman and Liu, 2004) were utilized for data collection. The reliability of the scale was examined using the omega coefficient, and factorial validity was investigated using second-order confirmatory factor analysis. Furthermore, to examine convergent validity, the predictive role of age and theory of mind for the dimensions and total score of emotional knowledge was explored using multiple regression. To establish predictive validity, hierarchical regression was employed to predict social competence based on emotional knowledge. Gender differences were analyzed using multivariate analysis of variance. The results of the factor analysis revealed that the proposed four-factor model for emotional knowledge demonstrated acceptable fit. The omega coefficient for the total emotional knowledge score was 0.85. Additional findings indicated that theory of mind and age were positive and significant predictors of emotional knowledge, and that emotional knowledge predicted social competence. Moreover, the findings revealed a gender difference favoring girls. The research findings suggest that this instrument exhibits high reliability, construct validity, and criterion validity. These findings can be beneficial for researchers, educators, and psychologists seeking reliable tools to assess emotional knowledge in preschool children. Additionally, the results pertaining to gender differences are applicable to parenting education.

Read More Childhood emotional abuse is a covert yet highly impactful form of child maltreatment that can lead to enduring adverse consequences for mental health. The present study aimed to examine the psychometric properties of the Childhood Emotional Abuse Questionnaire (Goodall & Sawrikar, 2023) within an Iranian population. This research employed a descriptive design and was conducted as a psychometric study. The study population consisted of all adults aged 18 years and older residing in Qom city in 2025, from whom 444 participants were selected using convenience sampling. The research instruments included the Childhood Emotional Abuse Questionnaire, the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale, and the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale. Data were analyzed using R software (version 4.3.1) with the mirt, psychometric, and psych packages, as well as Amos software (version 24). Results based on Classical Test Theory indicated that most items of the questionnaire, except for Item 8, demonstrated satisfactory item–total correlations and adequate discriminative power. Moreover, significant and positive correlations between the questionnaire items and criterion variables provided strong evidence for the convergent validity of the instrument, whereas Item 8 consistently showed a markedly weaker pattern of associations. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the original two-factor structure of the questionnaire following the removal of Item 8. Reliability indices further indicated acceptable internal consistency of the collected data. Additionally, Item Response Theory analyses revealed that, with the exception of Item 8, all items exhibited desirable threshold parameters, discrimination indices, and factor loadings. Examination of the test information function showed that the questionnaire provides the highest level of information and the lowest measurement error within the latent trait range of −2 to +4. Overall, these findings suggest that the Childhood Emotional Abuse Questionnaire is a valid and reliable instrument for assessing childhood emotional abuse in the Iranian population.

Read More Given the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence (AI) and the need to assess AI skills, it is vital to validate indigenous instruments to measure AI literacy. This study aimed to psychometrically validate Ng et al.’s (2024) AI literacy questionnaire in a sample of Iranian undergraduates as a non-Western context (Iran). This research employed a descriptive-correlational design with a psychometric approach. The questionnaire was localized through a back-translation process and expert review by specialists in educational technology, computer science, and English language teaching. Initial reliability was evaluated by conducting a pilot study involving 30 students using Cronbach’s alpha and test-retest methods. The final version of the questionnaire was administered to 151 undergraduate English education students at Shahrekord University who were selected via stratified random sampling. To examine construct validity and reliability, confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling based on covariance were conducted using AMOS and SPSS software. The results of the first-order confirmatory factor analysis indicated that the factor loadings of the items were acceptable and significant. In addition, the composite reliability (0.84) and average variance extracted (0.62) indices indicated satisfactory convergent validity of the constructs. The second-order confirmatory factor analysis was run to evaluate the AI literacy scale’s affective, behavioral, cognitive, and ethical dimensions. The model fit indices indicated an acceptable model fit. Overall, the results revealed that the four-dimensional (ABCE model) structure of AI literacy is confirmed in an Iranian sample. Furthermore, the descriptive analysis of the dimensions showed the affective dimension received the highest mean value, highlighting the importance of the motivational and attitudinal factors in forming AI literacy. In sum, the Persian version of the AI literacy questionnaire with 32 items demonstrated acceptable validity and reliability and can be used as an authentic tool for measuring AI literacy among Iranian university students.
